  Huh.  They always use (mis-use) the prodigal son parable.  Where was it stated in that parable that the erring son must wait a year or so and then write a letter? Bah.  

  
  

  And did you notice, in that same WT, there is a whole article about MALAWI and the intense (but totally needless!!) persecution that happened to JWs in the 1960's and 70's. If anyone is familiar with Ray Franz's book, Crisis of Conscience, you will know all about that muck-up and duplicity and double standards which the org could have prevented but did not.

  this is going around the kingdom halls now, i thought it was a hoax but are not all the end time dates produced by the organization some hoax or con?

  the reason why the end did not come in 1975 was the watchtower society had not put eve's creation in their equation.

  i was told when we had a "meet and greet" if "we knew the date of eve's creation we would know the year jehovah was going to destroy the earth.. it's been 40 years since 1975, can you believe it's been 40 years since "stay alive till 1975!"?

  Hoser - on why 40 years - well, in some of the WT publications, mention is made that 40 years seems to be a biblical precedent for maturity (spiritual maturity) and development.  Eg: the Israelites wandering in the desert for 40 years, Moses hanging around with the Midianites for 40 years before he encountered the burning bush.... Jesus fasting for 40 days.... It all makes perfect sense, you see.

  (jehovahs witnesses proclaimers of gods kingdom, page 201) he believed that it would have been erected by melchizedek according to a divine construction plan.

  anyone ever heard of the "order of full time servants" aka "the order" within the jehovah's witnesses?.

  If I understand things correctly, this "religious order" is some legal thing that needs to be taken care of when a person willingly works for a long time without pay. Then they can't be called slaves, nor can the WT be sued for slavery.  (the irony!!)

  Huh. Typical Bait & Switch.  They start by saying an elder can do much to help others, but then quickly define that as being "spiritual help & spiritual gifts". God forbid they ever do anything practical or truly charitable for anyone. 

  
  

  JWs are the kind of people who, if portrayed in the Good Samaritan story, would lay a magazine or tract beside the beaten man on the road, then step over him and continue on their way, all the while thinking that they had done a very great & compassionate  thing indeed.

  you know, this was one of the many things which helped wake me up. Our family joined "Melaleuca" and the similarities were so striking, I couldn't help comparing it to the JW meetings & all the things you mentioned above! The conventions and assemblies felt like big sales meetings. And when you met people, there was a sudden conflict of interest -- do you tell them about the Kingdom or do you tell them about Melaleuca?? lol

  thousands of people in america were the beneficiaries of new inventions in technology in the 1870's.. the typewriter, the telephone, and the light bulb transformed something we may have never considered before.. communication was ramped up seemingly without limit for the first time in human history!.

  pastor russell's customers were simple folks frightened by monumental changes.. what did these rapid changes really mean?.

  pastor russell distilled everything down to the notion everything was understandable as signs of the end.. ____________________________.
